Guardianship 101

This session will cover basic information on what is guardianship, when is it appropriate, how guardians are appointed, types of guardians and what their powers and duties are. It will also cover rights of individuals under guardians and how a guardianship is terminated. This session will be particularly helpful for new guardians and for service providers who may be working with guardians.

Aubrey Posey-Hitchcock

Aubrey Posey-Hitchcock is an Associate Attorney with the Hitchcock Law Group. She focuses her practice on elder law, specifically the creation and administration of guardianships, estate planning, and Medicaid planning. She earned a bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, in social science education from Florida State University and her Juris Doctorate degree, cum laude, from Stetson in 2005.

Alecia Lyons

Alecia’s passion for seniors started fifteen years ago and in 2013 she obtained a Master’s in business management with a focus on Healthcare Administration from the University of Saint Joseph’s in West Hartford, CT.  Upon learning the community resources and Healthcare systems in Florida, she wanted to do more to improve and enhance the lives of seniors and in 2018 became a Professional Guardian in the state of Florida.
