“Novel Approaches for Treatment Resistant Depression”
Richard A Cottrell, D.O., Psychiatrist
Guest Speaker: Richard A. Cottrell, D.O., Psychiatrist

Everyone has down days where they can’t seem to get going and nothing gets done. The laundry stacks up and the dishes stay dirty. Days where we lack enthusiasm, motivation or interest in anything or anyone.

Most of us have felt this way for days or even weeks after the death of a loved one or a job loss. “I’m on the discount rack, no one would ever like me or hire me, the future is bleak. I am worthless.” For most of us these days are, thankfully, few and far between. But what if these feelings surface everyday? What if you live this 24/7 for months and years?

Forty million Americans will have Major Depressive Disorders during their lifetime and for these folks one option is to see a psychiatrist such as our October speaker Richard A. Cottrell, DO.

Dr. Cottrell was born right here in St. Petersburg at Mound Park Hospital (now Bayfront Medical Center) and resides in Seminole with his wife and children. He is residency trained and board certified in psychiatry. He has offices in Largo and Pinellas Park and provides coverage at Personal Enrichment through Mental Health Service (PEMHS) and is the first in Pinellas County to offer Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, a new and exciting therapy for depression.

Dr. Cottrell provides individual patient evaluations, usually including medications specifically suited to a particular patient, and often recommends therapy with a psychologist or master degree level therapist. Many people find this very helpful or curative. But what about those of us who don’t get better with medications and therapy?

Or find the side effects bothersome or the cost prohibitive?

Come hear Dr. Cottrell speak about “Novel Approaches for Treatment Resistant Depression” at the Regular Meeting on Tuesday, October 18th.
