GAPC EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM

Presented by Heather Hughes, DNP, PMHNP-BC, AGNP-BC - APRN, Optimum Health

This presentation will help guardians better understand commonly prescribed mental health medications and their role in treatment planning. Attendees will receive a high-level overview of the five primary categories of psychotropic medications, followed by a closer look at antipsychotics, including why certain medications may be selected over others. The session will also address concerns surrounding Haldol administration, medication interruptions during hospital stays, and the potential physiological and behavioral effects of stopping and restarting treatment. Designed to bridge gaps between mental health care and guardianship, this program will equip guardians with practical knowledge to support informed advocacy and continuity of care for their wards.
